Robert Smolen, ESQ.

In January 2013, Robert Smolen, Esquire, joined Gaul & Associates, P.C. after practicing eighteen years at a prominent Mid-Atlantic insurance defense firm where he was a partner. Robert brings with him substantial litigation and first chair jury trial experience in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, having taken cases to verdict in the fields of products liability, negligence and workers compensation. He regularly provides legal counsel to insurance carriers and self-insureds with emphasis in the areas of products liability, construction defect, premises liability, insurance coverage and subrogation cases. Of note, he successfully defended a plumbing contractor in series of lawsuits alleging negligence, breach of contract and violation of a consumer fraud statute for improperly constructing and charging a fire sprinkler system. Mr. Smolen also has an active appellate practice and has argued before the Supreme Courts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Mr. Smolen graduated in 1989 from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Economics. He obtained a Juris Doctorate degree from Temple University Beasley School of Law in 1992 where he was an Associate Editor of the Temple University Environmental Law and Technology Journal and awarded the designation of Distinguished Classroom Performance in Trial Advocacy. He is admitted to the state and federal bars in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and has been admitted pro hac vice in the State of Delaware. He is a member of the Philadelphia, PA and Camden, NJ Bar Associations. He currently resides in Narberth, PA, with his wife, Judy, and their two small children.
